Remember those sunny afternoons when we used to sneak into the kitchen to steal tasty sweet honey. Apart from the sweet childhood memories honey added sweetness to the life of Vijaya Pastala who is a perfect example that patience always bear fruits. Pastala’s idea of establishing Under The Mango Tree took 14 years to shape into a profitable venture today standing at a turnover of 60 lakhs.
Vijaya post graduated in regional planning had no place to work in her initial days, worked under a mango tree from where she decided the whenever she will start a new venture she will name it after the mango tree. It almost took her years to decide what exactly she wanted to do and then finally zeroed on honey production. She understood that there was a demand for different kinds of honey and in this she saw an opportunity, which was completely different from other honey producers. Not many people have the vision, which Vijaya had for her venture. Her business not only brought sweetness to her life, but also to people who were associated with her.
The business model of the company is simple. The sourced honey is tested, certified, packed and labeled in a production plant on rented premises in an industrial area in Mumbai. The packaged products are sold online, delivered to over 100 shops in Mumbai and Bangalore, as well as to a lot of B2B partners like Taj Hotels. Over the next few years, UTMT plans to have a pan-India presence.
It can be rightly said that the difference between opportunities and success is the vision. How we look at things makes the only difference, as opportunities are plenty only we need to have determination to turn into success.
