Well, you must be aware of Elevator Pitch if you are a successful entrepreneur. It is something necessary and fundamental for a business owner or marketing manager. However, for the benefit of those who are hearing about it for the first time, let me elaborate it.

An elevator pitch (people call it elevator statement or elevator speech as well) is the summarized statement which defines a business process, or product or service or event or organization precisely, crisply and simply. It gives the value proposition in an impressive and convincing manner.

Writing crisp elevator pitch is a skill that can be possessed and sharpened by practicing hard. Here are three easy steps to achieve the same:

Be short and sweet

It is very much important to be precise and short while writing the elevator pitch. Rule of thumb is; it should not be more than five sentences. Experts say that you should not take more than 30 seconds to read it. Otherwise listeners lose the interest. Always use short sentences. They are easy to remember. The tone has to be simple and straightforward. Two phrases are critically important; ‘who’ and ‘do’. It means; you should precisely tell who is going to be benefited by your services and what is offered by you to them. Focus on things offered by you that can bring a significant change in their life.

Speak customer’s language

Even if you are a core technical company, avoid the use of jargon in the elevator pitch. Remember, you should be able to communicate in a short time span to the customers. Use words that can be easily understood by the audience.  Always keep the audience in mind while you write the pitch. Wear the shoes of your customers, and then write it. Use such a language that the audience feels as if you are talking to them. Always speak in a direct and precise manner. There is no harm in using creativity, but you should not lose the track.

Talk about ends and not means

The elevator pitch should talk about the outcome and not the process; your customers aren’t interested in it. They want to know what you are going to offer to them. Don’t make elevator pitch a sales commercial. It is not a place to promote your product or brand. It is a platform to introduce you in a very short time. Hence, make the first impression an everlasting impression.
